Butler. The Cheney left Buffalo early in the day, under orders to seek the Chemung and bring ber into port. A heavy sea was running and a dense fog obscured the view. Signal were exchanged between the steamer and tug, and the Cheney headed toward the point where the Chemung was whistling. Sudden ly tbe bigvessel shot into view, and an in stant later crashed into the tug. Without a second's warning to her crew the tug turned over and sank.
