W.G. FORMAN GETS 90-DAY JAIL TERM Mar en go, Far me Abused Horse, to Such Extent It Had to Be Shot | William G. Forman, . Marengo' township farmer, living five miles out of MarshEll on the Duck lake , . . ... road, was sentenced by Justice Bossard this noon to r.pend ninety days in the county jail in addl- tion to paying a fine of $100., For- man had pleaded guilty to charge of cruelty to animals. Forman mistreated a horse such an extent yesterday afternoon tliat it was necessary for officers to shoot the animal this morning |o put it out of 'its misery. One eye was pulled entirely out and the other was badly injured. The animal's throat had been cruelly slashed with a knife. Its mouth was practically cut to shreds from the effect of a punishing devica il wnlch Forman had used in an of- fort to make the horse do his bid- ding. There wCre cut • on his legs and Sheriff Colby counted fifteen separate stabs from-a pitchfork oh the horse's body.- Edison Cole, son-in-law of For- man, was at the farm yesterday afternoon and drove Forman's three-horse team on a binder cut- Ousting oats. He had trouble with the team .at 1;imes diirin£4*fcv, • af- ternoori and did not make much headway with .the cutting of the grain. Forman came puti to tho field, about 5:00 o'clock and evi- angry over tho fact that the work was not prb' gressing, faster and that the team would not work. He undertook to drive the team and when, tho brown horse balked, >hc started to beat it. He used a club .on it; and also a pitchfork, according to iole. , men Cole says that'he remonstrated with Forman, and told him that , the brown' horse was not to blame, ,hat it' was the others that were aalkipg. Forman ' told him that ;he horse he was beating was 'it fault and continued to beat it.
