PERFECT SCORES IN RURAL SCHOOLS Two Hundred and Sixty Pupils Neither Absent Nor Tardy During 1925-26 Term. Two hundred and sixty boys and girls in the rural schools of Newton county were there on time every morning- and never missed a day in attendance during the school term ending this spring. This is the result result of the compilation of figures made from teachers' term reports by County Superintendent W. E. Vcerkamp. It is the list from strictly rural schools and does not include city schools. By examining this condensed condensed report it will be seen that nearly all the rural schools have one or more who were neither absent nor tardy. Also that «Mic matter of, good attendance seems to run in families, there being many instances where four or five pupils from the same family made a perfect attendance attendance record. Teachers understand that this indicates wide-awake, Interested Interested parents, also that the teachers teachers themselves have been _ablc to~ arouse and maintain the interest of both pupils and parents. In a very few instances absences and non-at- lend.inco may be traced to indifferent indifferent parents and to parents who did not, like the teacher personally. The attendance of Newton county pupils Is by no means perfect but it is bc- liovedto rank well up toward the top among Missouri rural schools. Superintendent Veorkamp has been working on this matter of attendance attendance for several- years and the results results of his efforts in that direction are beglnlngHfo be apparent.
