Rabhi Goldberger Accepts Call to Georgia Charge RABBI II. R. GOLDBERGER Rabbi Henry R. Goldberger, leader of the Agudath Achim congregation for the past decade, has resigned his current position to accept a charge in Augusta, Ga., September 1. There he will have the leadership of the Adath Yeshuron congregation, in one of the three leading Jewish communities in the state of Georgia. The Jewish Welfare board has also designated Rabbi Goldberger to serve as a civilian chaplain at Camp Gordon, Daniel air field, the Augusta arsenal and two veterans' hospital. He will be accompanied to Georgia by Mrs. Goldberger and their daughter, Sonia Ruth, tfho will be a third year student at high school. Their son, Daniel, is a student for the ministry at the Hebrew Theological college and the University of Chicago. - Rabbi Goldberger came to Agudath Achim in August, 1934, and was Installed as spiritual leader of the orthodox Jewish congregation with impressive rituals at the synagogue. During his Altoona stay and residence at 2318 Broad avenue, Rabbi Goldberger has been active in all spiritual and civic affairs. The Agudath Achim congregation has flourished during his ten-year incumbency, the charge increasing from 150 to 250 families. He conducted daily Hebrew and Sunday schools that became leaders in central Pennsylvania. Rabbi Goldberger was a member of the board of the Blair county chapter of the American Red Cross and served as Jewish chaplain at the Pennsylvania Industrial school at Huntingdon. He was one of the pioneers of the local drive to curb juvenile delinquency. Nearby Jewish communities were strengthened under his direction, Rabbi Goldberger visiting the various district com-: munitles, j He has been president of the . Altoona Zionist district and vice president of. the western Pennsyl-I vania district. A forceful speaker,! Rabbi Goldberger's services have I constantly been in demand for addresses before numerous civic' clubs and other organizations. Mrs. Goldberger was active In organising the Agudath Achim 1 Sisterhood and helped to estab-! lish the Hadassah chapter, worn-' ens organization for the aid of. Palestine. She has been contributing her services to the canteen and served as chairman for the successful fur salvage campaign conauctea in Altoona. Rabbi and Mrs. Goldberger will be honored at a public farewell testimonial and reception at the synagogue Sunday evening at 8 o'clock, a special program of entertainment being arranged for the affair. Rabbi Goldberger will hold final services at the synagogue on Saturday, August 26, The retlringi leader will be the guest of honor at a testimonial dinner to be given by the board of directors of the synagogue at the Penn Alto hotel Sunday afternoon at 8 o'clock, Members of the board are as follows: Joe Cohen, president; L.
