Forrest Warren, Saoi Diego, met an old friend in this column recently. recently. It was General George Warburton Lewis, soldier of fortune. fortune. I mentioned his presenting me with a cane, made partly out of wood from the Bounty. Mr. Warren, who used to run a newspaper newspaper in Vermillion, Kansas, tells how Lewis made a hit with William William Howard Taft, many years ago. Taft, as secretary of war, was visiting the Philippines, where iwis was arum major in tne U. S. infantry band. In the procession honoring Taft, Lewis twirled the baton before the band. Passtmr under an arch 25 feet high, the tan, laniry riansas adventurer tossed the baton clear over the toD and caught it on the other 'side - never missing' a beat. tFn0enti
