OPAL SPENCE WETZEL, 94, formerly of 84 Ober Road, Indiana, died Saturday, Oct. 23,1993, at Scenery Hill Manor, Indiana. A daughter of Richard G. and Marie Antoinette Hunter Spence, she was born Dec. 10,1898, in Fertle, Minn. Mrs. Wetzel was a member of Calvary Presbyteriajn Church, Indiana; UCT, Indiana Hospital Alumni Association, Indiana Hospital Auxiliary, and Marion Center Grange. She was a graduate of the Indiana Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1922, and was the oldest living graduate of the school. She was well-known as a private duty nurse and was also a teacher, having taught at the Creps, Ferguson and McHenry schools. Surviving are two daughters and four sons: Mrs. Elbridge (Opal) Stockwell, Cherryhill, N.J.; Mrs. Sherman (Elaine) Good, Indiana; Perry, Fredonia; Richard S., Hudson, Wis.; Dr. Paul, Erie; Gerald, Butler; 19 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. She was precedced in death by her husband, William S. Wetzel; a son, William Dwight in 1928; adaugher, Margaret Eleanor in 1929; an uncle and aunt, Hewitt and Minnie Short, who raised her; two brothers: Lawrence V. and Chester Spence; two half brothers: Arthur and Lloyd Spence. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana; also Tuesday from 10-11 a.m., the time of services, in the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana. Dr. Richard Adams and Rev. Vince Stratton will officiate with interment in Marion Center Memorial Cemetery. re.
