The program is scheduled for 12 o'clock noon and is co-sponsored by the Salt Lake and Ogden boat clubs. Thrills, chills and spills arc promised an expected 5000 spectators. Ogden Legion Opens With Brigham Nine SALT LAKE CITY, Aug 7 CAP) Four teams will be in quest of the Utah state American Legion junior baseball title in a championship series at Brigham, Utah, Thursday through Saturday. Pairings for the state event were announced today by Legion officials, The winner will represent Utah in the regional tournament for August 22 to 25 In Salt Lake City. First game pairings on Thursday will pit Cyprus against East Carbon Ogden against Brigham. The series will run each night in double elimination play. Contenders for the state title are district winners. Twenty-four teams entered play . when competition began last June. Winners from eight districts met last week to limit the field to four. Glen Ballingcr, Helper, American Legion athletic chairman, said than 100 baseball teams under legion sponsorship this summer. However, only 24 met standards as outlined by the national Legion. "Junior, baseball has been given decided lift this year with greater spectator interest shown and more efficiently organized series play the teams," Ballinger pointed The Utah winner will pit its baseball skill against four other entries in the regional affair at field. The program is sponsored by the Salt Lake Power boat club with Ogden Pine View Yacht club assisting. The variety program will start at 12 o'clock noon.
