A few days before that time he went out of the city nd on his return found that his room had l a rented to someone else. He applied for r om at I street stating that h wanted to ay there on account of the nearness of the plavr to the Aragon hotel. where he took his 111..11 He was feeling 'Sadly at t e time and would not slay at the Arangon because the noise worried hn All during the wet he was very well n l not until l'"l' av afternoon did he complain Of being sick. He was troubled at .that time with pains In his back and went .1to e Dr. Alexander who treated him for the ailment. Saturday morning Dr. Alexander paid him another visit and he was. very well. Saturday night he stated that be felt as w -ll as usual and on retiring shut and locked his door. About 8 o'clock Sunday morning the fam- 111 with whom he boarded heard a noise In his room' The door was locked and a negro servant was sent around and entered his room through a window. She unlocked the door and seeing Major Ml'.len lyjig on the bed. called for assistance. thinking he was ill. When the members of the family arrived they found that he was dead. -j. It seemed that he had just been outW bed probably intending to dress himself and becoming exhausted fell across the bed and died before he could call for aid. Sketch of His Life. Major M. 1. Mllen was born In Savannah. Ga. seventy-five years ago and ted an active business life up to a few years prior to his sudden death. Ht-fore and during the war he was widely known through out Georgia and this entire section of the country. He was a man of unusual ability and rose rapidly lit possessed great foresight and his business Qualities were many. He saw that Georgia was destined to be one of the foremost states of the union and he began ,4 .undertake the work of building rail- Wads The Central rnilroad from Savannah to Macon. is on of t ie many roads he built to this and tile iieighl'oring stales. He was a contractor ar.d builder of railroads and to the carrying out of this profession he made a large fortune. At the time of the war his money was counted by the millions and he was thought to be the wealthiest mm In the south. The war. however left hint with only a small part of his great fortune. Though wealthy and able to move and avoid the danger and trials' of the war he remained In his native state and fought with his fellow men for a cause that was dear to him. He made a war record of which few can boast and came from the bloody fields bearing the title of n.'ajor. He had one -Kin Loring R. Mlllen a New York millionaire who deas In lumber the mow Jmporiant of which is the Georg'a pine. This son Major Milieu started out In business and he Is now one of New York's wealthiest business men. Telegrams were sent to his son and sister yesterday but at a late hour last night no answer had been received. The body was taken to the undertaking parlors of J. F. Barclay Co. where it was prepared for burial and will remain until his son is heard from.
