The bids for the new First Methodist church were to have been opened yesterday, but owing to the fact that Architect Badgely could not be here in time the opening was postponed postponed till this afternoon. Mr. Badgely's wife has been quite ill and he took her to Canada and could not get here till 11:45 today. Quite a number of contractors arrived arrived in the city yesterday. DurlngT the afternoon and this morning they visited the site of the new church and also went to the old church. They Inspected Inspected the perspective of the new church and all said that it would be of the finest church buildings In this part of the state. Among the contractors here now are the following: Arbogast of Normal, Miller of Logansport, ind., Asire of Logansport, Logansport, Ballard of Mattoon, Hen- drlcks of Mattoon. Wallace of Chicago, Summers of Elliottsville. Ind., Jahr of Urbana, Lanham of Chicago, Thompson of Bloomlngton, Ind., and others, besides local bidders. There are also several material men here. R. B. Ballard built the new church, at Mattoon and the one at Clinton. Miller is building the new cTTureh at Logansport. All three plans were drawn by Architect Badgely, who drew plans for the new Methodist cliurch here.
