1935-4-30 State Forestry Building Proposal Gets Approval - State Forestry Building Proposal Gets Approval...
State Forestry Building Proposal Gets Approval A state forestry division building program to cost in excess of $27,-000, of which more than $9,700 would be expended in San Bernardino, was approved yesterday by the county board of supervisors for submission to the SERA. The plans, submitted by State Ranger Russell Z. Smith, in charge of fire protection in San Bernardino county, call for erection of another ranger station, a suppression barracks and a two-room office at the site of the present station and garage, 3870 Sierra Way. In addition, construction of a ranger station, suppression barracks and garage in Yucaipa and Alta Loma is proposed. Estimates of the entire construction plan total $27,541, of which $11,-726 would be used for materials and $15,815 for labor. The SERA, under the plans, would assume the entire building cost. The forestry property in San Bernardino, on which a ranger station and garage were constructed last year, has a frontage of 100 feet on Sierra Way and is 280 feet deep. It also is the site of the major county warehouse. The state's two largest fire trucks are housed in the garage, as are five smaller patrol cars and sup pression trucks. The other two state trucks are located in Fontana and Redlands. The suppression barracks, under Ranger Smith's plans, would pro vide living quarters for crews of eight men each, which would be available for immediate dispatch to the scene of a fire, Estimates on the construction call for an expenditure of $9,728 for the three buildings in San Bernardino and $8,928 in both Yucaipa and Alta Loma. it
