ALTOONA'S COAL ASH EM (HADE TEST i,' Gave a Demonstration at Ellis' Mill of How to Save Coal. TOURING TOWNS IN VICINITY Indiana on Thursday entertained a real inventor in the person of John Ellmore, the Altoona shoemaker who has worked out a compound for mixing with coal ashes and using with coa again in order to keep down the fae bills. Mr. Ellmore came from Latrob< and, after spending some time here he moved on to Punxsntawner. While in Indiana Mr. Ellmore spen eight or ten hours at Ellis' mill, where he explained his invention and made a number of demonstrations. "Yank Meade gave Mr. Ellmore entire charge of the engine room and the cobble-inventor cobble-inventor kept the furnace full of coal, ashes and his own compound, -The steam pressure was kept op to the required guage for this large plant, despite the fact that the Altoona man, who gained such great fame two years ago,was occasionally piling in ashes and his mixture when Yank would have used more coal. There were time*, however, when the strangers assembled for the demonstration demonstration lost faith in the coal ash man and feared, that the fire would go out. Mr. Ellmore's claims to save coal and keep down the smoke by mixing his compound with the black diamonds were proven to the satiefac tion of almost everyone. At the boiler bouse of the Latrobe Steam Laundry some days ago Mr. Ellmore, with the steam guage registering registering sixty-five pounds, took charge of the firing, and by using half coal and half ashee, together with bis compound, compound, he raised the steam pressure to 100 pounds, and held it there without without variation, for 90 minutes, simply using half ashes and coal aa fuel. He then tried the use of coal ashes alone, using no coal at ail, and for a space of 25 minutes he held the guage at 100 pounds, before it began to drop. qf
