1940-4-16 Forestry Bureau Program Delayed
Forestry Bureau Program Delayed The board of supervisors voted yesterday to send representatives to Sacramento to determine the financial financial assistance that San Bernardino county might reasonably expect from the state and federal government government should the county take over complete sponsorship of the forestry department. Russell Z. Smith, county forester, and Paul W. Nicholls, county statistician, statistician, were authorized to go to Sacramento Sacramento to confer with state officials officials regarding the matter. Under the present program, the county pays more than one-half one-half one-half of the cost of operating the county forestry department in a cooperative cooperative agreement with the state. The board of supervisors is considering considering the possibility of operating the department more efficiently and at no greater cost to the county than at the present by establishing the department as a direct county unit. All of the buildings and equipment equipment of the forestry department are owned by San Bernardino county.
