i Kon-Tiki Raft Crashes On Reef, All Of Crew Safe BY THOR IIEYERnAHL. Raroia Reef, Aug. 7. (By Wireless.) ( Delayed.) (NANA. ) The Kon-Tiki raft is on a reef but! the six of us who are her crew are safe and unhurt on an uninhabited island. After three days of trying to get around Jong, low Raroia Reer, we finally were drawn right in among the coral rocks. As there was no choice left to us, we directed the raft right into the roaring 25-f6ot- waves which broke in the area. All men were ordered to elinz to Wie basic nine logs which form the bodv of the raft. When 600 vards from shore, we were grounded on a low, half-sub- mcreo mass oi corai.. warn breakers came in and threw us onto otner tocks, eacn a nine cios- er to shore. But the raft was taking an awful boating. Our hut was smashed to bits, and our hard wood mast was carried away. The steering oar went, and the cross logs from the stern and the bow. But the main logs held together, and we all clung to them, hoping for a chance to leap from them to some protruding coral and make our way along them to shore. Finally our chance came, and we jumped onto some sharply pointed rnmi nlnnc whiMi wo madf mir jway 500 yards to shore. We I still there, on a tiny uninhabited 'island. j i i
