VOLUME >7 Eleven Hundred Enjoy Barbecue About 1100 people were served a barbecue dinner at the annual meeting of the Katy Division of the American Rice Growers cooperative Association Friday, July 14. Following the dinner which was given at the Stockdick picnic grounds, the farmers met at the association office for the annual business meeting. Guest speakers were David Winterman of Eagle Lake, president of the American Rice Growers Association, central office and James Hopkins of Garwood, District manager of the Garwood Division. According to the report given by the Katy District manager, Gordon Fussell, 601,607 bbls of rice were marketed through the local office. The sales averaged in excess of 47 cents per bbl over the average received through all other association offices. Two new directors were elected, F. A. Hoyt and Richard Woods. Other members of the board of directors are, Olen Thompson, president, Charles Cardiff, vice president, Herman Lierre, secretary, Cecil Melendy and George Longenbaugh.
