Frank Riondy Dies from Wounds
Pvf. Frank Riondy Dies from Wounds Pvt. Frank Riondy, of the Third division of the U. S. Marine corps, died March 5 from wounds received March 4 on Iwo Jima, according to a War department message received this morning by his mother, Mrs. C. A. Riondy, 1231 Exchange. Private Riondy. who would have been 19 years old April 18, was born in Eureka. Ho attended Roosevelt Junior and High schools, transferring his senior year to Emporia Senior High school from which he was graduated last May. He was a Gazette printer before enlisting in the Marine corps in July. He was trained at Paris Island. S.'c., Camp Lejeune, N. C.. and Camp Pendle- ton, Calif., and went overseas No- < vember 1. He was in the Marianas until the Iwo Jima campaign He is survived by his mother and his • _j. •_ - ^. __ _ sister. Mrs. R. M. Scovel. both of whom live at 1231 Exchange. Mrs. Scovel, who has been visiting in Oklahoma, has not bee able to return to Emporia because of the high water.
