FLOYD AVOIDS SET FOR Officers Continue Vigil, However, Near Body of Slain Lieutenant BURIAL LATE TODAY Wounded Outlaw, 'Double' of 'Pretty Boy,' Refuses to Break Silence EARLESBORO, Okla., Nov. 23 .(/P)—His grave dug by friends to avoid expense, the body of George Birdwell, lieutenant of Oklahoma's outlaw chieftain, Charles Arthur Floyd, was to be whisked to cemetery in this oil field late today following brief services at a Seminole morgue. He was slain Wednesday in a sanguinary raid on a bank in the little Negro community of Boley, along with the Negro bank president- and a Negro robber. A second white robber was wounded, but still lives. The time of the services was announced for 3 p. m. Immediately thereafter, Birdwell's body was to be hurried to the cemetery and interred without further rites. Birdwell's wife and her two children remained beside the bank robber's casket this morning while officers, maintaining a sharp lookout for a trace of Floyd, kept a throng of curious outside the funeral establishment on the move. A brother of Floyd, officers said, viewed the body this morning while four oil lease workers were dig/ < $500 REWARD UP FOR KILLING BANDIT IN ACT OKLAHOMA CITY : Nov. 25 —(/P)—A reward of $500 will be paid by Oklahoma to any person killing a bandit in the act of robbing a bank, Governor Murray announced today. A $250 reward will be paid for the slaying of an accomplice participating in a bank robbery. At the same time, the governor revealed he had commissioned H. C. McCormick, Negro official in the Boley bank, a major on his staff as part reward for the slaying of George Birdwell in the robbery Wednesday of the Boley bank. McCormick also will be paid $250.
