Maas rand Openin, ByTONYWElTZEL Staff Writer Maas Brothers unveiled its 15th store today in the beautiful Coastland Center under sunny Naples skies. A shopping throng gathered outside the porte cochere entrance long before the opening, ribbon-cutting hour of 9:30. THE GOLDEN EAGLES Band f r o m N a p l e s H i g h School had the crowd swaying with rock and j u m p tunes . and marches. A distinguished Eile of planning, merchandising and civic VIPs gathered under the porte cochere and (he Eagles played the Star Spangled Banner and the sound lofted magnificently. Somebody said, "That porte cochere would make a great band shell. They could hold concerts here," Bill Frederick, Maas Brothers sales promotion vice president, got the show on the road. THOMAS MACLOCE, t a l l , genial president of the parent Allied Stores Corporation, chuckled, "We from frozen New York appreciate your w a r m welcome to Naples. This 15ih Maas Brothers store represents a continuing continuing program. Our customers are the nicest people in the world and we want more of them, "We've known about consumerism [or a long time and we've practiced it. But we call it 'consumer satisfaction 1 . Our goal is to be good citizens of (lie community . . . to serve its people honestly and well." Frank W. Harvey, president of Maas Brothers, said the [irm has long wanted to locate a store in NapEes and this day svas the accomplishment of long planning. M a y o r H a r r y E. O. H e i n e m a n was lauded for his tremendous help lo the Coast I find Center project over the past several years. THE MAYOR said, "We're glad to have Maas Brothers here and I think the citizens of Naples join me in taking deep pride in this project, It will be a tremendous boost to the economy of (he city." Joining in (he opening ceremony were Herschet Hayo, Maas v i c e - p r e s i d e n t , stores; J o h n K e l l e y , general partner in Coastland Center; Don D u n n , southern group vice-president for Allied Stores; Charles McCarthy, member of the Allied Board; John D. S m i t h , general partner in Coastland Center; Andrew Murphy, president of Alstores Realty Corp.; Gene N o r t h u p , Allied director, a n d F r a n k W i l s o n , A l l i president. Store M a n a g e r John W o o d w a r d , Heineman cut the crimson tape with a very special pair of shears, the crowd surged in and Maas Brothers was open.
