COLONEL PEYTON REMEMBERED. Citizens Present Him With a Token of Appreciation. On Saturday afternoon F. A. Ilihn, Wm. T. Jeter, H. Willey, W. D. Has-lam, Dr. C. W. Doyle and Duncan Mc-Pherson called at the residence of Col. B. Peyton to wish him a pleasant trip to Europe, and to express regret at his resignation as Superintendent of the Powder Wrorks. On behalf of the gentlemen present Mr. Ilihn, in an informal manner, presented Col. Peyton with a silver cigar holder as a slight token of the appreciation in which he j is held by the citizens of Santa Cruz. Mr. Hihn added that Santa Cruz is sor-1 ry to lose him, and wished him success in the future and a complete restoration to health during his visit to Carlsbad. Col. Peyton, In expressing his thanks, said that he regretted leaving Santa Cruz, but since his son's resignation ' as Assistant Superintendent of the Powder Works and removal to San 1 Francisco, he did not feel able to bear the burdens of his position owing to his advanced! age and physical condi- ( tion. I He remarked that had he been able to, he would have come to town to j shake hands with his old friends and give them a personal farewell. After refreshments were served the gentle-' men took their departure, all again wishing the Colonel a pleasant trip and safe return. :
