Top-Rated Field c In Bryan Race By DOUG TODD Guessing the winner- of today's Jimmy Bryan 150-mile championship event at tricky business. There's A. J. Foyt, of course, the defending U.S. Auto Club national champ and last year's Indianapolis 500 winner; there's Mario Andretti, deprived of the championship championship last year for the first time since 1964; there's Bobby Unser, current USAC points leader; there's Tucson's Roger McCluskey, always among the front runners. AND THEN THERE is Lloyd Ruby, the smooth-driving Texan who won last year's Jimmy Bryan simply by leading the race for 150 miles. Back in 1946, when Ruby started driving midgets in Wichita Falls, he was piloting a Ford-powered machine while Offenhausers were winning everything in sight. Last year at PIR's D-shaped mile, Ruby came out in a turbocharged Offy — at a time when Ford had a virtual stranglehold on championship racing. Continued On Page 5-E
