County Prepares To Assume Control of Migratory Camp County Atty. Franklin L. cated it would sell the property, Smith is preparing the necessary legal papers for the county to take over the Robstown Migratory Labor Camp. The camp, run by the county- appointed Nueces County Housing Authority, is saddled with a debt of $68,400, due to be paid off Oct. 1, and has only $29,000 on hand. Members of both the authority and the County Commissioner! Court met informally yesterday in Eobstown to discuss how to handle the debt. The debt would be paid by the $29,000 on hand and the rest from the county's general fund. The commissioners court indi- which includes 132 acres with 25 frame houses, 33 shelters of six rooms each (one room for a family), four rest room facilities, a laundry and bath house and a community building. The two groups agreed that the camp, originally built by the federal government in 193840 had just about outlived its usefulness as housing for migratory farm workers. Of the 65 families living mere now, only about 15 are migratory. The camp has room lor about 223 families. The commissioners court will meet in the next few days to reappoint the housing authority board as an assurance against title questions. Then the authori- ;ion turning the camp back t the county. The county acquired the cam from the federal government i 1948 for $48,000. None of th principal has been paid, and in terest for only three years wa paid. At the time the county acquired it, many migratory farm families stayed tiiere, but authority members said yesterday few stay there now.
