Suspect in gun thett held on driving count Hiawatha King, 35, of RD 2, New Philadelphia, one of two men held in connection with a March 16 $5000 gun theft pleaded no contest Monday in central district court to driving without an operator's license. He was fined $57 and sentenced to 20 days in county jail, although Judge Richard Musgrave said 10 days of the sentence will be suspended if the fine and costs are paid within 10 days. A driving while intoxicated charge still is pending. King and Bernard Eggelston, 47, of Columbus were jailed by sheriff deputies Saturday morning in connection with the theft of 35 rifles, shotguns and hand guns from the Dale Porcher residence on RD 2, Newcomerstown. After obtaining search warrants, deputies found the stolen weapons in the trunk of an auto driven by King and in a Crooked Run area home which Bggelston told deputies he and King has been occupying. King was returned to county jail on the traffic count and Eggelston is being held for parole violation. .Concealing stolen property charges against both men are pending, deputies said today.
