Autos, Not Smelters ? While all these phony experts are^ tell- i»g us what is causing our air pollution, please allow a non-expert to give his views. .. . ;They have found a scapegoat. The smelters of our state, which is the greatest fallacy one can imagine. Let's quit being hypocrites, and place the blame where it really belongs, on you, me and everyone else who drives or operates a combustion type engine or motor. The jets, diesels and all trucks and cars. Smelter smoke never hurt anyone I lived in Douglas 10 years. They had two smelters belching out smoke 24 hours a day from 1S01 and it killed or hurt no one. In fact, I knew two tubereulars who swore by its beneficial effects on that disease. Both came there on a stretcher to die, apparently got well and returned to the East, had relapses; came back to Douglas on stretchers again, to live out a normal life. They swore that the sulfur smoke did the work. Be that as it may, I know we had at least four more smelters in the state thjjft thanx BOW, and not a complaint froth Phoenix about that smoke polluting polluting our air. ! The remedy: Stop the jets, stop all diesels, trucks and busses, and jack up our private cars in the garage. •Will we do it? No. We are destined to stew in a poison of our own making.
