Denied Membership In The Legion, Doggonit Winchester,. Ind., June 21—(INS)-* War hero Spud Phistner, of Winchester, Winchester, did not seem to mind today today because his petition for membership membership in the American Legion has been denied by national officials of i the veterans’ organization. In fact, ! he never uttered a word of protest! j It’s not that Spud doesn’t have j an honorable discharge — he does have. He was discharged Aug. 12, 1946 after serving for three years iri the U. S. Army. OfTicials of Winchester’s Randolph Randolph Post 39 of the Legion argued Spud’s case, but reported sadly to Mrs. Louise Phistner, that the tition was rejected. Seems that Legion qualifications for membership use the term “per-* son.” Spud is a Belgian Shepherd dog, owned by Mrs. Phistner. H. served with honor in the war dogs K-9 section of fche U. 6. Army dur-’ Ing World War H,
