ground settles over marcy graves 1906
GRAVES DISTURBED. Surface Settling in Marcy Cemetery at Duryeu Large Portion of Earth Encircling Four Graves Dropped. The settling of the surface over the mine workings in the back road section section of Duryea continues. and the fears which have been felt that the settling would extend to that section of the Brick Church cemetery in which bodies lie, have come true. The latest latest disturbance occurred late last Sunday afternoon, and is in what is known as the lower section of the cemetery. A section of ground about 40x50 feet in size, dropped fully six feet. In this area were four graves three of which were those of adults and the other that of a child and these sank with the settling. The graves dropped intact, and there were no fissures near them. so that they were not in any way exposed.
