Miss Eloise Hill Queen of Epworth Miss Eloise'Hill of Mt. Carmel cottage was crowned 1949 queen of Epworth 'Friday night in a beautiful setting of flowered trellises. Preceding Miss Hill in the queen's procession were six queens of past years, Misses Jerry Rogers,' Sally Rowe, Mrs. Carolyn Bliss Langknect, Mrs. Nancy Younger Martin, Mrs. Eleanor Rucks Lambert and Mrs. Jane Beachel Miller. Attending the queen this year were Miss Mary Louise Croslin as maid-of-honor, and Misses Lynn MacCallum, M a r j o r i e Street, Eleanor Russell, Diane Montgomery and Margaret Mundhenke. Pages, Linda Rogers and Danny Fleming, carried the train of the new queen, who .was crowned with a wreath of white carnations by Miss Jerry Rogers, queen of 1948. Miss Hill, whose home is in Mt. Carmel, 111., is a student at Denison University, Granville, O. where she is a member of Delta Gamma sorority. She is spending her fourth summer as Epworth reporter for the Luding- Daily News. Following'the coronation ceremony a children's parade, in which each child paraded before the queen and was given a gift, was held. Prizes were awarded to Nanette Younger as the "Sugar Plum Fairy" for the most beautiful costume and honorable mention was given to Sandra Skorupski as "The Epworth Bride of 1969.". For the most original, Pam and Dan Pallick as "Piper and Isaiah, their good old Epworth service," received the prize with Mary and Susan Stripp as "Buttons and Bow" winning honorable mention. Ann, Ri'a, and Jack Winterbotham and Gretchen Leutheusser as "Mam'mie's Little Babies" received the prize for the most humorous with Margaret and Mary Nigro, honorable mention. Jiffy Porter and John and -Margo Hoffman in a covered wagon received a prize for the best group portrayal and Elizabeth, Dick and Carol Rogers ag "Patty Berg at EpW9rth" re? ceived honorable mention. Others in the parade were Peter Meyer, "Roy Rogers;" Debbie Meyer, "Pavlova;" Caroline and Peter Bliss and Butch Lambert as "Washday"; Virginia Robinson as "Hurdy Gurdy Girl"; Dickie Robinson, as "Clarence, the Cop"; Jeanne and Nancy DeCosted, Kitty Lucas and Sue Combes as "Little Red Riding Hood"; Nat and Ralph Griffin as "cowboys"; Peggy O'Bannpn as "Lucy Locket"; Web and Callle Cowden and Barry and Jeannie Brady aa "Two Pairs from Windy Corners." Kathy Lucille Hultgren as "Little Miss Sunset View Junior"; Joan Hilborn, "Gypsy Maiden"; Mike Parman and Ted Moore as "Valet for Gorgeous George"; Jeannie Walker as "Ballerina"; Ann Rogers, as "Time to Retire"; Marilyn Miller, as "Miss Gold Rush of '49"; Nancy and Emily Seymour as "Bonus Blondes from Canasta"; Ann Hensely as "Hawaiian Girl"; Judy and Johnny L a n g- knect as "Little Lulu and her Best Bet"; Susan Forman as "Little Miss Ballet"; Peter and Ann Generelly as Bubble Gum"; Katharine and Ann Strome as "Gypsies"; Jimmy and Suzanne Woodward as "Buffalo Bill" and "Calamity Jane"; Susan Seigfried as "Miss Dixie Bell"; Kenolyn Cowan as "I Duz Everything"; Laura Cowan as "Cowboy Small"; David McDowell and John Shewmaker as "The Goofy Twins"; Rita Rowell as "A Rumba Dancer"; Susan Rench as "Red Cap"; Denny Hanson as "The Plumber"; Carol Robbins as "A Little Swiss Girl"; Bruce Quayle as "The Red Devil"; Hal McCarthy as "Cowboy"; Susie Rauscher as "Cowgirl"; Bill Quayle as "Black Cat"; and Mickey Fleming as "The Big Fisherman.'" After the Venetian night festivities at the auditorium, Miss Hill was honored at a queen's ball at Lincoln Hills Golf club where Kim Heddens was elected king of Epworth for 1949. The club house was decorated with vari-colored streamers and balloons and the names of the queen and her court were inscribed on the walls. Mrs. Charles Martin sang several pc/pular numbers with the orchestra. Steel pipes and tubes now are made in sizes ranging from hypodermic needles to pipes 150 inches or more in diameter. TO Michigan
