Eighteen essays on "What I Can Do For Democracy" were handed in and judged. Betty Ann Miller received first in the frnshman group, Carol Callies first in the sophomore group and Sharon Sharon Callies first in the junior-sen-*- ior group. Of the three, Carol Callies Callies received the $5.00 prize for writing the winning essay over all. The other two girls received prizes of $3.00 each. Mary Tjaden Tjaden and Mary Ann Nordman received received honorable mention. The winning essay will be sent to Mrs. J. B. Asa, county Federation Federation president, to compete with other essays sent from county schools. Woman's Club Elects The Titonka Woman's club met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Harold Gartner. Mrs. Howard French was leader of the lesson on the social life and customs of Mexico. She also described described their recent trip into Mexico Mexico to the city of Guaymas. At a previous meeting of the club the annual election of officers was held with Mrs. Clark Miller elected elected as president; Mrs. Edward Brandt, vice president and program program chairman; Mrs. Clifford Krantz, secretary; Mrs. George Bonacker, treasurer and Mrs. Howard French member of the county executive committee. Mrs. French is the retiring president. Mrs. Inlermill Hostess Mrs. L. J. Intermill was hostess hostess to the Tuesday Bridge club on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Pierre Sartor was a guest of the club and prizes were wort by Mrs. Wm. Ricklefs, Mrs. C. F. Callies and Sunday evening, February 18, Peace Lutheran church at West Bend was the setting for a beautiful beautiful wedding ceremony, when Miss JqAnn Balgeman was married to Victor Meyer, in a 7:00 o'clock candlelight ceremony. JoAnn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Balgeman, and Victor Meyer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Meyer of Ottosen. Ottosen. Rev. Wm. Schuelke officiated. Soloist for the occasion was Mrs. Louis Henrikson. The bride, given in marriage by her father wore a bridal gown of white rosepoint lace and net over satin, in ballerina length. The gown featured a fitted lace bodice, a sheer net yoke, with peter pan collar and tiny covered buttons, extended to the, waist in Wack, long sleeves tapered to a point over the wrist. To the fitted waistline was gathered a bouffant bouffant net skirt. Her headdress was a matching net ruffled clocke, trimmed with pearled orange blossoms to which was attached a full circular veil of the finest French Illusion. She carried a bouquet of yellow and white roses. Donna Balgeman served her sister as maid of honor. Miss Patricia Ketelson, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid. Eldon Meyer served his brother as best man and Paul Meyer, also a brother, served as his attendant. Ushers were Earle Balgeman, brother of the bride and Walter Licht, cousin of the bridegroom. Miss Jean Balgeman had charge of the guest register. A reception for 150 relatives and friends was held in the chvr.-h parlors immediately following following the wedding service. Mrs. George Hanselman poured and Mrs. Louis Henrikson cut the wedding cake. Miss Balgeman has been cm- ployed at the Kossuth Co. PMA office in Algona the past three years. Victor Meyer is engaged in farming. He is a veteran of World War II, having served 18 months, 10 of which were spent in Germany. Germany.
