pay out. L. with the Hearth- Maj. Jacques Awarded D.F.C. In Guinea For Flight Achievements Honored For Taking Unarmed Transports Over Mountains. Major P. DuBrutz Jacques, of the U. S. Army Air ?orps, son of Mrs. Lancelot. Jacques, Sr., of Smiths- burg, has been awarded the Dis- tinguished Flying Cross for extra- ordinary achievement, according to an Associated Press dispatch from Washington. The citation says that Major Jac- ques, who has been in the South Pacific war theater for 17 months, was awarded the D. F. C. in New Guinea recently for flying unarmed transport planes over the Owen Stanley mountains to carry supplies to United States and Australian sol- diers who wrested Buna and San- anda from the Japanese.
