Parties have been looking up some of the old mines of Ophlr District and as we understand there is a fair show of two of them starting up In the near future future namely The Eureka and the June Bug The Eureka Is the west extension extension of the well - known Hathaway owned by San Francisco parties and now filled with water on account of the rig not being able to do the hoisting of both water and ore The Eureka Is owned by George B Knoff who proved the value and continuance of the pay chute by extracting ore through one of the levels of the Hathaway When forced to quit on account of water he went on the surface and by sinking a 90 - foot shaft and drifting he proved the chute to be regular both In pitch and value of ore While working through the Hathaway shaft he extracted a total of 254 tons of ore which turned out In the mill 4093 and the sulphurets netted 3462 the assay value of sulphurets sulphurets being for two different lots In sller 70 and 106 ounces respectively and running In gold from 250 to 304 ounces The ledge as far as has been developed will average all the way from 20 Inches to two feet Tbe ore worked from the top amounted to 140 tons the battery returns being 31120 and the sulphurets sulphurets netting 378 27 after paying all expenses expenses the assay value of sulphurets being 2940 ounces of silver and two ounces of gold Placer Herald
