was for for in unfortunates in for of of Father of Algoniatii Died at Swea City. Swea City, December 22. Special: James M. Smith, father of Neal A. Smith and Mrs. Belle Black of Algona, passed away Sunday afternoon December 20, at his home In Swea City after being ill since the day after Thanksgiving. His death was caused from cancer of the stomach. James! Monroe Smith was born Ap HI 2, 18B7, in Wapello county, Iowa. He was the youngest son of Galloway and Mary Smith, pioneers who came from Tennessee in 1840. While yet a child he moved with hb parents to Warren county, Iowa. On in September 4, 1874, he was united „, marriage to Nancy Emellne Sever and the couple continued to reside in Warren county until 1890, when the family came to Kossuth county. For nine years they resided on a farm three miles east of Algona, then moved to a farm near Seneca. Later Mr. Smith bought a farm In Greenwood township and the family lived on this place until 1918, when Mr. Smith purchased a home in Swea City and retted from active farming. Of a family of twelve children Mr. smith was the lask surviving son, three brothers and six sisters having preceded him in death. Always cheerful and with a pleasant word for everyone, Mr. Smith was a loving husband and a kind father, caring devotedly for his wife, who has been invalid for the past few years His never-falling hospitality and generosity made hm delight In enter- teining guests and celebration of his golden wedding at which time all his " Mt " — were present, was a source of I :c- —r— "-"• j"«^tu». wus a suurce oi tne keenest enjoyment to him.
