Statements to the effect that Committeeman R. W. Clayton, of the Sixth Qistrlct, would shortly resign have been given frequent publicity. It is not understood here that Mr. Clayton proposes to resign. The mere fact that he is in Washington at this time can not be urged as sufficient warrant for such an action. There Is no immediate need of his presence as committeeman in: Iowa now and will not be for ten weeks. When Mr. Clayton's presence is needed in Iowa it is quite likely he will be there. It is quite likely the republicans of the district are satisfied with the situation and that they desire Mr. Clayton to continue on the committee.
