Family ties bring Pop band to town for series of concerts i m '- - . Get ready for Too Much Pop. The San Diego trio will be in Sioux Falls for most of June, as lead singer Kendra Kohrt returns to her roots to visit family and friends. "My family is from Sioux Falls," says Kohrt, 21. "My mom was born and raised there, and although I've never lived in Sioux Falls I've been there twice a year for every year of my life." The band has a series of shows scheduled throughout June and July, including performances from 8 to 1 1 p.m. Friday and 9 to mid- night Saturday at Touch of Europe downtown. Cover charge is $5. "What we call ourselves and we're hard to define is melodic groove. It's bass, drums and vocals. It kind of sounds like it's going to be a groovy rock band, but it's not. It's kind of jazzy, funky," says Kohrt. Members of Spooncat! will likely sit in with Too Much Pop this weekend, and Too Much Pop will open for Spooncat! June 13 at the Pomp Room. Other confirmed gigs: Java-N-More, Wednesday night; Theo's, June 20-21 ; Sioux Falls Brewing Co., July 17. Others will be added. The band Kris Andrews and Michael Hogan are the other two members is touring the region throughout the summer, with shows scheduled in Colorado, Nebraska and Minnesota. This is the group's first tour outside of the San Diego area. The band has released one CD on its own Sugaliscious Music label.
