Shackelford Candidate for the Office of County Treasurer. In our announcement column this week appears the name of A. LaFayette Shackelford, who is seeking the nomination fox the office of County Treasurer, Subject Subject to the action of the democrat ic primaries. Mr .'Shackelfo 'rd is too well known in the east end of the County to need an introduction, having been a resident of this vicinity the past 22 years, but for the benefit of the democratic voters of the county who may not be personally acquainted with him, the following statements are made: A- L. Shackelford was born in Sabastan county, Ark., Aug. i8, 1872, where he resided on his father's farm until 1890 when he moved to this county and 1 has made it his home ever since. He has made farming his chief occupation occupation in life, but for a time was engaged in mercantile business business in Muldrow and for the past ten seasons has been directly engaged engaged in the ginning business. In all his business deals he lias been successful and no man can say that he has been unfair in any transactions. He is a man of honor and intelectual attainments, attainments, and with all a gentleman of the purest type. Mr. Shackelford is not a democrat democrat because his forefathers were democrats, but because he believes in the principles of democracy—a government of, for and bv the people. In the summer of 1897 Mr- Shackelford Shackelford made a through canvass of the east end of the county in the interest of his party, giving his time and money for the cause, not asking one penny in recompense recompense for his services. He help organize the first Democratic Club at Paw Paw and wherever his service was needed, has given given it liberally. Mr. Shachelford is recognised as one of the leading men of the east end of the county. In 1907 he was elected precinct committeeman committeeman which office he filled to the entire satisfaction of his party. party. He has never asked, until this time., for any office, and is not asking recognition now from his party because of past ser vices, but because he wants the office and is making the Tace on his merits alone. He is a good, clean man, well qualified for the offic^ which he aspires to. His past record is before the voters and the only promise he has to make is that, if nominated and elected,he will give the office the same careful and dilligent attention attention that he has given his private afiairs. Mr- Shackelford is a hustler,a good-mixer and has a wide ac quaintence over the county. We believethe democrats would have a mighty strong man for County Treasurer if he is honored with the nomination.—Muldrow Press (March 15th, 1912.) - of upon for as ty support use I no It each | the I with of ingof to ,..
