James Hjelvik Obituary - James lijelvSk, 84 James Lars Hjelvik died...
James lijelvSk, 84 James Lars Hjelvik died Wednesday in Butte Convalescent Center. He was born March 26, 1921, in Alamosa, Colo. He lived for a time in Alamosa and Fort Collins, Colo. The family moved to Butte in 1926, where Jim attended Emerson and Greeley schools. He then enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps. After his stint in the CCC, Jim returned to Butte and worked for Davidson Grocery Co.; where he met the love of his life, Thelma Point. Jim and Thelma were married Jan. 1,1942. Jim rustled a job with the Anaconda Co., first as a miner and then as an ironworker on the "Rope Gang," Even though his formal education was brief, he was promoted to. the foreman-ship of the Rpe Gang and was known everywhere on the Hill as "Jovial Jim." He retired after 38 years of arduous service. He was an avid outdoors-man, bowler, golfer, gardener, and a devoted member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Arco Retired Employees Club. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and wife Thelma. Survivors include his sister, Marguerite Schmelzer; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Karen Hjelvik; daughter and son-in-law, Linda rnd Robert Marko; . grandchildren, James M. Hjelvik (Jessica), Tasha Bowen (John Lisa Marko, Ian Marko; three greatgrandchildren; and special friend, Helen Wakefield.
