East Of Town Robert Ashby Dies In Auto, Truck Crash Robert Nolart Ashby of Mt. Vernon, an 18-year-old student at Rend Lake GoUege, waS killed last night and two others jvere injm^d in a car-truck crash.on new state,route 15, eigltt nlileS east of Mt. Vernon. Ashby, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Bobby Ashby of 1608 soutii 15th street, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Good Samaritan Hospital; Karen L. Lane, 17, of Wayne City, a passenger in the Ashby car, was seriously injured but was reported in fair condition this mommg at Good Samaritan Hospital. The truck driver, Delbert Warren Warren Jr., 43, of Wayne City suffered suffered what appeared to be non-serious non-serious injuries. .He was reported in satisfactory condition this morning morning at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Hospital. The car was westbound and the truck was headed east when the ^collision occuiTcd on a slight curve west of East Hickory Hill church and at the location where old route 15 intersects with the new route. Authorities said Miss Lane suffered back and pelvis injuries, cuts and severe shock. The Ashby car was wrecked and the. truck was considerably damaged. State Ti'ooper Claude Flanagan Flanagan who investigated the accident, accident, filed a charge of Improper lane usage against Warren. Funeral Monday Funeral services for the young Mt. Vernon college student will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Laird Missionary Baptist church of which he was,a member, member, and burial will be in Lau-d cemetei-y. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel, where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Sunday. At noon Monday the body will be removed to the church, to lie in state until the funeral hour. Robert Nolan Ashby was born July 22, 19© in Mt. Vernon, the son of the Rev. Bobby and Patricia Patricia (Malone) Ashby. He attended grade and high school at Freeburg, HI., aixi was a Rend Lake College student and member of the college chorus at the time of his death. He was also employed at the Jax Coal Co. here. Besides his parents, he is survived survived by one sister, Kimberly Ann, at home; and his grandmothers, grandmothers, Mrs. Nora Ashby and Mrs. Iva Malone, botli of Mt. Vernon.
