'X. George Goodin George R. Goodin, 71, of Fenton, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Fenton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fenton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Memorials may be made to the church or the Samaritan Hospice. Mr. Goodin was born March 20, 1926, in Sterling, the son of George G. and Hazle Sawyer Goodin. He attended Fenton Public School and graduated in 1944 from the Erie High School. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Navy on July 24, 1944, where he served aboard the USS Chevalier DDDDR 805. He was honorably discharged on June 7, 1946, as an Electrician Mate 2nd Class. He married Shirley Newman Sept. 25, 1949, in the Noble E.U.B. Church, Griswold, Iowa. He worked in the electrical construction trade as a member of Local Union 145 IBEW, Rock Island, retiring in 1989. He was also employed for a time as a commercial fisherman. He was a private kind of person and loved his family very much. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports as well as playing golf himself after his retirement. He was a longtime active member of the Fenton United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sandi Goodin, Piano, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristi and Mike Winckler, Erie, Lori and Jerry Norman, Erie, Juli and Tom Wesolek, Perryville, Mo.; grandchildren, Kameron and Kelsey Goodin, Ryan and Kelly Winckler, Shelly, Jason and Lisa Norman, Jordan and Tyler Wesolek; and sisters, Mae Hensler, Morrison, and Georgia Jepson, Fenton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a special grandson, Kevin Winckler, on June 24, 1989.
