Rites This Afternoon For Thomas J. Tate Funeral rites for Thomas Jefferson Jefferson (Tom) Tate, 67, of the Oak Level community of Halifax Halifax County, were conducted today today at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home the Rev. Phil M. Jenkins. Interment followed in the family cemetery. Mr. Tate died Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at his residence. had been ill since last Monday and his condition became serious serious on Thursday. A native of Laurel Grove, was born Nov. 21, 1898, a son the late William Vinson Tate and Mary Slayton Tate. He a retired farmer and had lived in Pittsylvania and Halifax counties all his life. For the last ten years, he had made home with his nephew, Lester Tate, at Oak Level. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edward Satterfield of ' Vernon Hill; one sister, Mr- Minnie Tate Irby of Suth erlin Rt. 1: one brother B. B. Tate of Sutherlin Rt. 1; and one grandson, Danny Lee Satterfield.
