^Moravia, Iowa J. F. Alberts Write Concerning Co. D Picture In The Union Mrs. J. F. Albert writes the Union and identifies the picture of a couple of weeks ago as that of Co. D, 168th U. S. Infantry in World War I. She also sent clippings clippings concerning their activities. The' picture was taken on July 4, 1917 on the Moravia square. It was taken by C. M. McFatridge who also paid for the engraving to be run in the Union shortly afterwards. In the news article accompanying it they are reported as "boys now going over the top in France". Attached is the notice received of the injury of J. F. Albert from the Captain of the 168th Infantry. It was a very personal notice saying saying he had been wounded in the leg in an engagement with the enemy. That he was then in the hospital and will be released soon. News articles published together with the picture in the Union of the Co. D. group on Moravia square tells of four Appanoose county boys of the group killed in action. They were John Ellis, Centerville; Russell Selix, Union- vile; Guy O Worley, Centervllle; and Frank Osgood. The page out of the scrapbook also contains other pictures, in-i eluding one of four Co. D. members members and Marie Chambers. The Co. D members in that picture were Dan Pence, Basil Cowell, Vern Graham and J. F. Albert. The Alberts also state they have been having hot, dry weather in Washington, D. C. But regardless of the heat, she says she grabs the Union each week and takes it out in the shade in the back yard and reads it from cover to cover. Their little grandson, Michael Firkins is slowly recovering from rheumatic fever and together with Ms sister will go to a new school near their home in the fall. The Alberts' son, Jim received his masters masters degree from the University of Virginia and will be principal of two schools in Arlington the coming coming school year. Mrs. Albert says she would like to make a Moravia visit at Fall Festival time, but that she has been chosen as a delegate to the Supreme PEO and will be attending attending a convention at that time in Van Couver, B.
