Vance, who is now bound over to the grand j u r y to action upon a charge of assault i n t e n t tocommit rape upon the person of JSstelleMintouyeofEddyville. to have him sent to the insane asylum atMt. Pleasant,alleging that his mind is affected, says the Ottumwa Courier. One of the commissioners of insanity has already b"een ap; proached w i t h a view of what action he would take i' such charge were to be made. It is alleged that the f r i e n d s of say be is insane and the proper place for him is in the asylum. It is reported that the preliminary efforts co have favorable action, by the commissioners of insanity have met with a - r e b u f f and that possible the case will not be taken u n t i l some f u r t h e r taken by t h r a c i v i l authorities It is alleged that if Dr. Vance indicted his plea will be insanity and that w h e n the case comes an effort will be made to have the criminal charge dropped and have him taken before the commissioners for a hearing as |to his insanity. When this has been done it is alleged that he will be sent toMt.'Pleas- a-it for treatment. It isalleged that the friendsof Dr. Vcinceclaim that in view of the latest . d e v e l o p m e n t s that doubt as tothrc u n s o u n d his m i n d . For this reason argue that it would be better for him to be confined in the hospital than to be held under a criminal charge, hence they wish to have him given a hearing upon that charge. It is understood that the .State going ahead with its case and has already to take "before the eraod j u r y when that body convenes Tuesday. It is reported that there will be at least seven little girls testify before that body, and those- who are working on the case say that there will be more sensational evidence introduced before that body than has heretofore been given out.
