Lexington Ledger : 7e are pain ed to learn, that an old man by the name of Emmerson met with a horrible death in Randolph county last Satur day. He was returning home in a buggy from Ran.dleman, and when within about one-half one-half one-half mile of Pee JDee river his horse became frightened and. dashed off at a furious rate. Emmer son, finding it impossible, to stop the animal, jumped from the buggy, and as he did so, by some means his hands was dragged along the roadside and hanged against trees and rocks in a shocking manner. When the river was reached the mad horse plunged into it and dragged the already dead an through the stream. On the other side some men headed off the horse aud succeeded in stoppiug him. Tne buggy had been wrecked and the dead man presented a ghastly apT pearance.
