Greensboro Patriot: Mr. John C. Burgess, a well known and highly respected citizen of Randolph county, residing at Columbia Factory left his home ou Monday the 9th inst , and was supposed by his family to have gone out to visit some of his relative s as he was not seeu in the neighborhood neighborhood through the week. He was in the habit of leaving home for several days at a time, without informing his family where he was going. Not healing from, or seeing him up to the lith his friends became somewhat alarmed, as he bad been unwell for some time. Inquiry was at once made throughout the county, messengers being sent in different du actions, where he. was thought to lave gone, the last one of them returning Sunday night without any tidings from mm; the neighborhood by this time becoming becoming thoroughly alarmed, commenced on Monday morning early, a search for him and continued it until Thursday Thursday morning when his body, was found about 250 yards from hjs old ,home place, now owned by - W. H Burgess, his brother, with whom he was negotiating negotiating for the property, "and was taking taking a survey of the premises before consummating the trade. When fouud he was lying on his face with no marks of violence on his person. The opinion opinion of his physician was that he died of heart disease. Deceased was 65 years of age and has all his life been identified with the growth and manufacturing manufacturing 'interest of his section of the couuty. " He was one of the first stockholders and founders of the Columbia factory, established in 1850.
