Friday Morning, Slay 5,1978 (Tiff (5a(&e»ton Two Top Administrators Assigned For Morgan Elementary School By KAREN RIEDEL GISD Information Services The Galveston school district has assigned the two top administrators for the new L. A. Morgan Elementary School. Jewell Banks, former principal at Goliad Elementary School, has been elected principal and Carole Streiff, lead teacher at Bolivar Elementary School, has been named administrative assistant. Banks began her teaching career with the Galveston school district in 1962. She has taught fourth and fifth grades at Washington and Goliad elementary schools and was named principal of the latter school in 1974. Banks received her B. A. degree from Texas Southern University and has 33 hours above the master's level in education. She was named this year's administrator of the year by the City Council PTA. "This is the most exciting, exciting, and the most challenging opportunity of my career," Banks asserted. "I know the community will be looking at Morgan very closely in the next two or three years. Because of this unique situation I want L. A. Morgan to be a community school, with community togetherness. "The theory that Morgan will be an 'island of academic excellence' is not an abstract theory—but a theory I mean to implement and make work. I am .totally committed to Morgan and its philosophy," Banks concluded. concluded. Banks' right hand woman is Carole Streiff. Mrs. Streiff has been with the Galveston school district since 1971, teaching at Carver, Island and Bolivar elementary schools. Streiff received her B,S. from the University of Houston and M.Ed, from Mississippi College. Her enthusiasm, energy and dedication will blend well with Banks' own unique personality. Strieff's position is unique in the district since no other elementary school has an administrative assistant. Her duties are numerous and include working directly under the supervision o( Banks; assisting in determining the schedules of all special teachers as they relate to providing services to the instruction teams and providing assistance to teams in determining and securing instructional Lubin Memorial Fund Set Up By March Of Dimes The Galveston County Chapter National Foundation Foundation March of Dimes has instituted an annual memorial scholarship fund in memory of Paul Lubin, an outstanding young student who recently lost his life in a traffic accident. The announcement was made by George Hauslnger, chairman of the board of directors for Galveston County MOD. Hausinger explained that the Paul Lubin Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of Galveston County seeking a future in the health career field.
