He was born, if we are not mistaken, in the old house that stood near the old mill on Pigeon Creek, formerly owned by Abram Van Voorhis. He wa3 the son . Markell, Cyrus Underwood and others, of long ago. Thornton married Eliza, daughter of Abram Van Voorhis, who died in the old house that stood on the site of John Van Voorhis' present residence. Thorn ton started to California over land and fell on the way; where his body is buri ed none can tell. John married Miss Eliza Warne. He built and lived for a time ia the house now occupied by A. D. O'Donovan. He moved in 18,rw or '5G to the vicinity of Parkersburg, West Va, From there to Missouri. He was an honest and upright man, and we trust in death he found a rich inheri- inheri- tance. One by one the old landmarks pass away. v
