While the preparation of Swedish foods may De complicated and tiring, the Christmas Eve meal is relaxed, although structured. It might last for hours with a combination of buffet and sit-down sit-down sit-down courses, separated between the third and fourth by opening of gifts. It opens with the first-course first-course first-course buffet of limpa bread and butter, hardtack, pickled beets, bruna bonor (brown beans), bond ost (cheese) and lingon berries. Sylta and prass sylta are served with pickled herring, Swedish meat balls, potatiskorf and grynkorf. The family is gathered around the table for the second course, lutefisk (cod with white sauce) and boiled potatoes. A third course of qrut-rice qrut-rice qrut-rice pudding is served with cinnamon sugar or syrup or milk.
