Was She From Levenworth
WAS SHE FROM LEAVENWORTH Los Angeles, Cal.. Feb. 27. Yda Addis Storke, an eccentric and once brilliant writer, who was indicted by the grand jury of Santa Barbara county in January, has been hiding in this city for weeks. Her arrest for criminal libel was effected by a clever ruse and she has been taken to Santa Barbara for prosecution. The arrest of the woman recalls a peculiar career, which for utter dissipation of talent is sad. Born in Leavenworth, Kan., she moved to the coast, but her mania for notoriety lied her into trouble. In 1886 Misa Addis caused the late Governor Downey to appear in court under habeas corpus proceedings, claiming that he had proposed marriage. This was disproved. After this scandal she bobbed up In old Mexico and was made correspondent in a divorce case by a member, of a Mexican official household. Later she drifted to Santa Barbara, married A. C Storke on an acquaintance of six weeks, andi was divorced a few months later after a bitter contest for his property. Mrs.. Storke's present offense consist ed in writing hundreds of slanderous letters.
