grandparents. Thomas Klncaide Barley. Thomas Kincalde Barley, aged 84 years, one of the pioneers of tho city passed away at 10 o'clock Wednesday Wednesday evening at the home of his siFf'r, Mrs. A. E. Shaffer, 225 South Veiiiiont avenue, where he had made his home for the past forty years. Mr. Barley was born in Rock Bridge County, Virginia, March 12, 1842, coming to Saline county with his parents in 1855, making the trip by steamboat. He with his brother J H. Barley came to Sedalia in 1869 and established the J. H. Barley, Brother and Company shops, locating locating on the corner of Fifth and Grand w'here the residence of Mrs. Kate Hurley is now situated. Later the shops were moved to Main and Vermont where they have been located for the past 55 years. Mr. Barley was one'of the'fore-j most pioneer inventors, of farm equipment and in the development of farm machinery. The Barley sectional smoothing harrow manufactured manufactured by the John Deere Plow company, is an invention of Mr. Barley's as were the hay racks and hay stackers. When the Barley shops opened It was necessary to use horses to furnish power to run the shops. Mr. Barley was a member of the First Baptist church since early manhood, a member of Granite Lodge No. 272 A. F. A A. M., also the Knights of Pythias. He Is survived survived by his sister Mrs. A. E. Shaffer, Shaffer, two nieces Miss Minnie Shaffer, Shaffer, principal of Writtier school, and Mrs. J. H. Remington, of Kansas City, and one nephew. Fred K. Shaffer, present operator of the Barley shops, under the name of Shaffer Engineering company. The funeral will be held at 2:,30 o’clock Friday afternoon at the First Baptist Church, services in charge of the Masonic order of which he was a member. Rev. A. W. Kokendoffer, pastor of the First Christian church, assisted by Judge Louis Hoffman to offic'ne. Honorary pallbearers will be C. E H Montgomery i:. Messor'lv. J. Wnldraan. Chsrles i Bard, F.
