The appoint ment became effective Wednesday of last week, August -i, 11U9. According to Francis M. Wilson, United States district attorney, recent legislation bus trebled the duties of tho office. The present staff hat handled ull of the udditional work, but un the recommendation of Judge Arba S. Van Vulkcnburgh, the new assistant assistant wus uppolnted through tho effort of Senator Jumes A. Heed. The Old Sentinel takes especial prido in congratulating Mr. Minton on Ids appointment. Ho is a Holt county boy, tiio son of Dr. 1. M. Minton, of Minton township, where ho wus born und where his father wus born, and where his grandfather, Henry Minton, located In 1848. Hubert cumu and grew up on thu farm just like the uvcrage of farm buys. He went to the old Idlewitdo school and then to the Mound City high school from which ho graduated. Ho took to tho law, and entered the orrtcc of tho late II. 1'. C. Wilson, of Plutto City, and futhcr of the present United States district ntomey. After reading law with Mr. Wilson for several years ho entered the law department of tho Michigan University, University, ut Ann Arbor, from which ho graduutcd, anil in 1909 wai udmitted to tho Holt county bar by Judge Wm. C. Ellison. Sinco entering tho practico he has enjoyctl a good practice, maintaining his office at Mountl City. He is mar ried, and his lato appointment will necessarily compel him to take up his residence in Kansas City that he may be in closo touch with Judge Van Valkenburgb and his chier, 1-rancls Wilson.
