Popular Broadway Musical 'Showboat' to Be Presented Early in March by Senior High One of the most popular and successful of all Broadway musicals, musicals, "Showboat," will be presented ay the students of Senior High School during the first week in March. The musical version of Edna Ferber's Ferber's best selling noved has been a show business standard for a third of a century since it premiered premiered at the new Ziegfield The' atre on Dec. 27, 1927. It portrays showboat life on the Mississippi River during the 19th century and features romance between between the dandified gambling man Gaylord Ravenal, to be played by Bob Balmer, and the winsome Magnolia, to be portrayed by Gail ~Uoxham. Other members of the singing and dancing cast are: Windy, Jim Nelson; Steve, John Gibbs; Queenie, Queenie, Cassandra Logan; Parthy, Montrey Copeland; . Cap'n Andy, Steve Renken; Ellie, Judy Schreiber; Schreiber; Frank, Jerry Belinson; Rubber Rubber Face, Danny Ward; Julie, Nancy Belt. Vallon, Sam Winn; Joe, Fred Jones; Backwoodsman,,Bill Fife; Jeb, Earnest Crawford; Landlady, Anne Doll; Jake, Jim Bryant; JSm, Joe Moore; Kim, Jane Crutchfield. The Oscar Hammerstein-Jerome Kern favorite set the pattern for a long line of "book" musicals which gained national and international international favor, such as Oklahoma Carousel, The King and I and South Pacific. The production has been called the American folk operetta and is considered a classic adopted by both Metropolitan Opera and Broadway Theatre. The presentation is a combined effort of the Music, Art, Drama and Speech and Industrial Arts de partments of Senior High. Last year the presentation was "Finian's Rainbow." Popular songs from "Showboat 1 are "Make Believe," "Old Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Da' Man," "Live on the Wicked Stage," "Why Do I Love You,' and "Bill".
