 - THETWiaNTODIE ON SAME GALLOWS Grady Reynolds...
THETWiaNTODIE ON SAME GALLOWS Grady Reynolds and Bad Brooks Sentenced To Death Yesterday. WILL BE HANGED SEPT. 24TH Beynolds Resigned to His Fate but Brooks la Greatly Distressed. He Begs Them To Forgive Him. for Taking Fart In the Murder of Their Brother. Bud Brook and Grady Reynolds the murderers were brought Into the court room at Jefferson Ga. yesterday morning at 8 o'clock.and sentenced to be hanged on the 21th of September for their crime and on the same gallows. Palo and trembling they appeared before the bar. Judge Hutchlns ordered the two men to stand up and In a voice clear and solemn he pronounced the awful date. It was the same formula that is always spoken In the sentences of death. He order ed the sheriff o the county to take the two prisoners before the bar carry them to the common Jail of Jackson county and there confine them until September 24th at 10 o'clock when they Were to be carried to the gallows and hanged by the neck until dead the execution to be private. "Have you anything you want to say said Judge Hutchlns. turning to- Bud Brc'oks. "I don't feel like I have done enough to be hanged for was the reply In a hoarse and trembling voice. "Have yon anything to say Judge Jlutchlna apoko to the other condemned man. "I am sorry that I did what I have done and hope to be forgiven. There was a sound of resignation In .he voice of Reynolds as he spoke these last words to the court. "Sir. Sheriff take charge of your prison ers said Judge Hutchlns as he turned his eyes to the criminal docket and wrote out the sentence that had Just been passed upon the two men. Up to "this time-not a person In the court room moved their position. The sheriff took charge of Brooks and Reynolds and with the assistance of one of ha deputies he carried them back to the Jail where they await their awful doom. Begs Victim's Brothers To Forgive" As soon as tho two men under sentence of death were locked In their cells Grady Reynolds sent for the two brothers of )1. C. Hunt who have .been In Jefferson since the trial began. The two men went immediately to the prison and were admitted to the murderer's cell. "Mr. Hunt. I want Jo ask you to forgive me for what I did. and don't have any- hard feelings toward me- said the man who had murdered their oldest brother. 1 haven't got anything against you for prosecuting me as you have. I did .1 big wrong and I am sorry of It. Reynolds hung his head and sighed. Although these two men have spent hundreds of dollars and have worked hard for -the conviction of the slayers of their brother this appra for forgiveness from a man. although hated as was Grady Reynolds moved the two men. They were not of stone and the words of Reynolds wore spoken to earnest. He was told to make his peace with God. Brooks has never spoken to the brothers of the Af3. l man. He is not penitent and feels as If he is suffering for another man's crime. Ho is not yet resigned to his fate. The many Interested spectators who have been spending the day at the courthouse loft .soon after the sentence was passed and returned to their homes satisfied with letting the law take Its course. It is not probable that either of the cases will be ap pealed as none of the attorneys have re ferred to It since the Jury brought In their verdicts. N i k W V/ THETWAIN TO'DIE I ON'.SAMH Illi.
