BETTY COMPTON SIGNS CONTRACT With Warner Bros— Is Now Wife of 'Jimmie' Walker. (Copyright, 1934, by I- N.-S.) BY HARRY K. REYNOLDS (I. N. S. Staff Correspondent) LONDON, June 9.— INiS-^MrS: Betty Compton Walker, with "Jimmy's" consent, is about to become a film actress, International News Service learned today. After a year's retirement from the musical comedy stage following her marriage to New York's ex-mayor, Betty has signed up with Warner Brothers to play the lead' in their new talking picture, "The Richest Girl in the World." Production of the film will begin Monday in Warner Brothers' studios at Teddington. It is understood that some of the recent troubles, trials and tribulations of the world's wealthy young women, like Barbara Hutton and Doris Duke, furnished the inspiration and idea for the film, although it is stated that there is no intention to try to picture the life of either of those poor little rich girls. Theistory to be filmed concerned a girl who had so much money that she was denied all personal liberty, being constantly threatened by kid- napcrs, and was not even able to trust the young men who courted her fearing that all of them were only after, her money. As a last resort in the search for happiness the rich girl changes places with a maid, seeking that elusive happiness in an obscure position — and with success.
