Jacob Houder Killed
Killed. Another is added to our list of dead heroes in the person of Capt. Jacob iloUDER, of the 88th Regiment, who fell gallantly battling for his Country in front of Petersburg, in' the ftglit of Sunday. A more gallant officer, truer fVk - ncl, or more honorable man never drfw sword from scabbard. Capt Houder was one ol three who went into the army out of one family, namely a father and two eons. The father is with the 1st Pa. Cavalry, and the remaining remaining brother is a prisoner in the hands of the enemy. Young, and ardent in his nature, he .was among the foremost in the fight, and,' until he received the fatal messenger messenger that bereft him of his life, liad never received a scratch. His deafh will be sincerely sincerely mourned ty all who knew him, and by none more than his immediate friends and companinswho best knew his excellent qualities of head and heart. Iu him ' the country loses an able soldier ; one who fully comprehendedjhis duty, and whom no mercernary motives could sway.
